Ways to pay less without losing everything

  • Rotate streaming. Keep one or two services and switch the others on for a month when a show you want drops, then cancel.
  • Check annual plans. Paying yearly is often 15-20% cheaper for services you use all year.
  • Try ad-supported tiers. They can cost several dollars a month less.
  • Look for perks you already have. Phone plans, credit cards and memberships sometimes include a streaming or music service.
  • Set a reminder before free trials end and scan your last two bank statements for charges you forgot.

How this works

We add up the monthly price of everything marked Keep or Cut to show what you pay now, and add up the Cut items to show your savings. The ten-year figure is simply twelve months times ten; the invested figure shows what the same monthly amount could grow to at 6% a year, as an illustration of what small recurring charges cost over time. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

Are the prices accurate?

They are typical list prices and change often. Check your bank or card statement and edit any price so the totals match what you actually pay.

Why show the “invested” number?

It shows the opportunity cost of a recurring charge. It is an illustration, not a promise; real investment returns go up and down.

What is the fastest way to cancel?

Cancel in the app or account settings where you signed up. If you pay through an app store, cancel there. Many services show a discount offer before the last step, which is worth considering if you would rather keep it cheaper.

Finding the subscriptions you forgot

Scroll through two or three months of bank and card statements and look for small repeating charges. Also check the subscriptions page in your phone’s app store account and your email inbox for receipts and renewal notices.

You do not have to cancel everything you enjoy. Rotating streaming services, choosing ad-supported tiers, sharing family plans where the terms allow it and switching from monthly to annual billing for services you use all year can all cut the total.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find subscriptions I forgot about?

Search your bank and card statements for repeating charges, check the subscriptions list in your phone’s app store account, and search your email for words like receipt, renewal and trial.

Is rotating streaming services worth it?

For many households, yes. Keeping one or two services at a time and switching when you finish a show can save money without missing what you watch.

What if a company makes it hard to cancel?

Cancel in writing if you can, keep screenshots or confirmation numbers, and if charges continue, contact your card issuer about disputing them and stopping future payments.
