About Bill Reduction Institute

Bill Reduction Institute helps American households pay less for the bills that arrive every month: internet and TV, cell phones, insurance, electricity and gas, medical care, subscriptions and the fees that ride along with all of them.

Why we exist

Most bills are not fixed. Prices rise quietly after promotions end, add-ons pile up, and better rates often go to people who ask for them. Meanwhile, programs that help with energy, phone, internet and medical costs go unused because people do not know they exist or how to apply.

We write plain-English guides, call scripts and free calculators that close that gap. Our goal is simple: help you keep more of your money with the least possible hassle.

Who writes our guides

Our guides are published under the byline of our editor, Edward Garcia. Every guide is written to be practical and checkable: we explain how a bill works, what you can ask for, what to have ready and what to do if the answer is no. When a guide involves prices, we describe typical ranges and tell you to confirm current offers with the provider, because prices change often and vary by location.

How we work

Our method is simple and repeatable. For each kind of bill we read the provider terms, rate plans and public program rules that decide what you pay, then turn them into steps you can take yourself.

  • Find the leak. We look for the charges that most often creep up: expired promotions, equipment rentals, add-ons, unused services and billing errors.
  • Compare and benchmark. We describe typical price ranges for plans and coverage, and we say where prices vary by location, usage or credit history.
  • Make the call. Our scripts are written to be read out loud, with replies for the most common pushback.
  • Follow through. We explain how to confirm changes in writing, when switching makes sense, and which assistance programs may help.

We review guides when rules or typical prices change, and we fix errors as soon as we learn about them. Spotted something out of date? Tell us through our contact page.

Our principles

  • Plain English. No jargon without an explanation.
  • Honest numbers. We do not promise guaranteed savings or quote made-up statistics.
  • Do-it-yourself first. Most guides show you how to save without buying anything.
  • Your information is yours. Our calculators run in your browser and do not send what you type anywhere.

How we make money

Our guides and tools are free. We earn money in two ways: some companies pay us a commission when readers choose their offers through our links, and some savings partners pay us when a reader who asked for a free bill review, and agreed to be contacted, becomes their customer. This never raises your price, and it does not decide what we recommend. Read the details in our advertiser disclosure.

What we are not

Bill Reduction Institute is an independent publisher. We are not a government agency, a nonprofit, a utility, an insurance company or a law firm, and our content is general information rather than legal or financial advice.

Want help with a specific bill? Tell us what you pay and we will follow up with ways to lower it, from do-it-yourself steps to vetted partner offers. Free, with no obligation.
